Albany, N.Y. - The two teams atop the America East standings will meet in a pivotal doubleheader on Tuesday when the Stony Brook softball team (23-14, 9-2 AE) travels to Albany to take on the Great Danes (25-14, 8-4 AE) at 1 p.m. Stony Brook currently holds a 1.5 game lead over Albany with five games remaining in the race to the America East regular-season championship. The schools have met in the last two America East championships, with Stony Brook winning in 2013 and the Great Danes prevailing last season.
Scouting the Great Danes
Albany possesses a potent offense, ranking second in the America East with a .303 batting average. Maggie Cocks (.411), Elizabeth Snow (.402) and Vicky McFarland (.393) rank third, fourth and seventh in the conference in batting average, respectively. Snow is second in the conference in slugging pct. (.813), third in home runs (9) and fourth in rbi (35). Erynn Sobieski and Devin Durando have split time in the circle. Sobieski is 8-4 with a 2.75 era, while Durando is 12-4 with a 3.59 era.
Chasing History
With her game-tying home run vs. Seton Hall, senior outfielder Bria Green (Wheatley Heights, N.Y.) tied the Stony Brook single-season home run record with her 17th homer of the year. She currently leads the America East in home runs (17), rbi (45), slugging pct. (.958), batting average (.432) and total bases (113). Not only is she among the America East statistical leaders, but she also ranks highly in many national rankings. Her .46 home runs/game is currently seventh-best in the country, while her slugging pct. ranks 11th.  She is five  rbi shy of the school's single season rbi mark (50).
Power Up
The Stony Brook offense has posted impressive power numbers, ranking first in the America East in home runs with 48. In fact, the 2015 Seawolves broke the Stony Brook single-season team home run record of 47 with senior Shayla Giosia's (Runnemede, N.J.) seventh inning home run vs. Seton Hall in their last game.  They rank 25th in the nation with an average of 1.30 home runs per game. Green leads the conference with 17 home runs, while Giosia is second with 10. Nine different players have registered a home run this season.
Conference Domination
The Seawolves have won 11 consecutive conference series dating back to 2013 when they were swept by Binghamton. Since then, they are 25-4 in regular season conference games. Sitting at 9-2 in America East play, the Seawolves have assured themselves of a winning record in conference play, making it four years in a row they have finished above a .500 record in America East play.
