Seawolves Sweep DH at Maine

ORONO, Maine -- The Stony Brook baseball team (12-11, 6-2) earned the double header sweep of Maine (9-17, 1-4) in America East action on Friday at Mahaney Diamond with a come-from-behind 8-5, 13-inning win in game one and a 3-1 victory in game two.

The Seawolves scored two in the seventh inning and one in the eight to come back and send the first game into extra innings before plating three runs in the top of the 13th to secure the victory.

In game two, Stony Brook freshman Kevin Kernan (Mahopac, N.Y.) improved to 2-0 in the mound by tossing four innings and allowing one run on four hits and striking out two. Sophomore Cameron Stone (West Haven, Conn.) struck out eight in three scoreless innings to earn the save.

Game one turning point
Trailing 4-1 entering the seventh inning, the Seawolves struck for a pair of runs in the inning and one in the eight to tie the game a 4-4 and eventually send the game to extra innings. Stony Brook then got a two-out RBI single from sophomore Toby Handley (Whitby, Ontario) and an two run double by junior Jack Parenty (Wantagh, N.Y.) to place three in the top of the 13th to help secure the win. Freshman Teddy Rodliff (Quincy, Mass.) picked with the win after going five innings and allowing just one run on five hits in relief.
Game two turning point

The Seawolves plated one run in the second, fourth and seventh innings for enough offensive support for freshman Kevin Kernan (Mahopac, N.Y.) and sophomore Cameron Stone (West Haven, Conn.) to combined for 7.0 and allow just one run on four hits and strike out 10.

- Junior Johnny Caputo (Toronto, Ontario) extended his hitting streak to nine games with a hit in each game on Friday.
- Sophomore Toby Handley (Whitby, Ontario) went 6-11 in Friday's double header with three runs scored and two RBI.
- Senior Rob Chavarria (Garden Grove, Calif.) went 6-9 with 2 runs scored on Friday.

On Deck
Stony Brook and Maine will complete the three-game series on Saturday with a single game at 1 p.m..
