Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Brook softball team (10-10) will host the Binghamton Bearcats (9-9) in a three-game set this weekend in both teams' conference opener. They will play a doubleheader on Saturday, Apr. 4 starting at 1 p.m. and a single game on Sunday, Apr. 5 at noon.
Scouting the Bearcats
The Bearcats are scoring runs in bunches. They have scored 10 or more runs in four games this season and lead the conference in batting average, slugging pct., on-base pct., runs scored and runs batted in. Lisa Cadogan and Sydney Harbaugh are leading the charge with 18 rbi apiece. Cadogan is hitting .404 with five home runs and Harbaugh is at .393 with three home runs. Unfortunately, their offense has been well-ahead of their pitching. As a staff, they own a 6.66 era. Cara Martin has been the team's most consistent pitcher at 4-3 with a 3.92 era.
Green Monster
Outfielder Bria Green (Wheatley Heights, N.Y.) is on pace for a record-setting senior season. She currently leads the America East in hitting (.429), slugging pct. (.984), home runs (9), rbi (23) and total bases (62).
Deep Lineup
The Seawolves have four starters hitting over .340 entering this weekend's series with the Bearcats. Green leads the way with a .429 average, followed by freshman Chelsea Evans (.361), senior Shayla Giosia (.354) and junior Alexandra Pisciotta (.344). To put this in comparison, only 11 players in the entire conference are above the .340 clip.
Pisciottta Peppering the Ball
Nobody in the Seawolves lineup is hotter right now than Pisciotta. She has recorded a hit in her last 14 ball games and is batting .404 over the stretch.
Cardiac Kids
The Seawolves have shown a propensity for the dramatic this season. Five of their 10 wins have come in Stony Brook's last at-bats and 10 of their 17 games have been decided by two runs or fewer. The Seawolves own a 7-3 record in such games.
Slaughtering Seawolves
Stony Brook's offense leads the America East with 25 home runs. They rank t-27th in the NCAA with an average of 1.25 home runs/game and eight different players have registered a home run.
Not So Plain Jane
Junior Jane Sallen (Lake Worth, Fla.) has been dominant during the recent homestand. She has appeared in all five games, making three starts and allowing just three runs over 20.1 innings. In her three starts, she has allowed just one run in 17.2 innings. Over her last seven games, she has lowered her era from 3.83 to 2.84.
Series History
Stony Brook is 29-14 against Binghamton since joining Division I and took two of three in Vestal, N.Y. last season.
