Seawolves drop slugfest to Binghamton, 13-7

April 5, 2015

Final Stats

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Senior Bria Green (Wheatley Heights, N.Y.) continued her torrid pace at the plate with four rbi and her league-leading 11th home run of the season, but it wasn't enough to overcome 18 Binghamton hits as the Stony Brook softball team (12-11, 2-1 AE) was bested by Binghamton (10-11, 1-2 AE) 13-7 on Sunday.

Bryant's Reaction

It's important that we did win the series against Binghamton," said head coach Megan Bryant. "It was disappointing to play the way we did today. None of the facets of our game were good, but we are going to learn from this and move on."

Turning Point

The Seawolves jumped out to an early 4-0 lead thanks to a three-run homer by Green and an rbi single by senior Shayla Giosia (Runnemede, N.J.). However, the pitching tandem of junior Jane Sallen (Lake Worth, Fla.) and senior Allie Cukrov (Irvine, Calif.) ran into trouble in the middle innings. The Bearcats scored four runs in the third inning, five in the fouth and three in the fifth to take a 12-5 lead and avoid the sweep.

Notes

  • Green completes a week to remember. In six games, she batted 6-for-14 with four home runs, 11 rbi, seven runs scored and a slugging pct. of 1.357.
  • Junior Allie Pisciotta (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) ripped an rbi single through the left side of the infield in the bottom of the third inning to give Stony Brook a brief 5-4 lead and extend her hit streak to 17 games.
  • Junior Diane Caruso (Middeltown, N.Y.) recorded two hits. It was her second multi-hit game in the last three contests.
  • The 13 Binghamton runs and 18 hits were both season-highs given up by the Seawolves.

Up Next

The Seawolves will look to bounce back with a trio of midweek non-conference games. They are scheduled to play a doubleheader at Sacred Heart on Tuesday, Apr. 7 at 3 p.m. and then host a home game vs. St. John's on Wednesday, Apr. 8 at 2 p.m.
