Stony Brook sweeps Binghamton in final doubleheader of the season

VESTAL, N.Y. -- The bats were awake and the pitching and defense were solid once again for the Stony Brook baseball team (31-14, 18-4 AE) in the America East doubleheader sweep over Binghamton (17-24-1, 6-16 AE) at the Bearcats Sports Complex on Friday afternoon. The Seawolves won game one 13-4 behind 16 hits, and earned a 5-0 victory in game two.

Game One Turning Point
The Seawolves set the tone early by scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. Stony Brook had three singles -- one by each junior LF Jack Parenty (Wantagh, N.Y.), senior 2B Rob Chavarria (Garden Grove, Calif.) and sophomore SS Jeremy Giles (Claremont, Calif.) -- and Chavarria's drove in senior C Cole Peragine (Belle Ewart, Ontario) after he walked to open the game. Baker's hit plated Parenty and Chavarria.

Game Two Turning Point
In the middle of the pitcher's duel between Stony Brook's sophomore RHP Daniel Zamora (La Puente, Calif.) and Binghamton's junior RHP Mark Bunal, Seawolves freshmen Bobby Honeyman (Massapequa, N.Y.) and Malcolm Nachmanoff (Boston, Ma.) put together back-to-back hits in the top of the fifth to plate the game's first run and all that was needed for Stony Brook to get the win. Honeyman singles to open the inning and Nachmanoff doubled to right center that scored Honeyman.

Notes
- Stony Brook entered the day second America East with a .291 batting average. The Seawolves collected 16 hits in the opening game and nine in game two. SBU is now hitting .294.

- Junior LHP Tyler Honahan (Parker, Colo.) earned his seventh win of the season by tossing 5.0 innings in game one. He allowing three runs on five hits, while striking out eight.

- Junior RHP Tim Knesnik (Milford, Pa.) picked up his second save of the season in game one by pitching 4.0 innings in relief, giving up just one run on six hits.

- Sophomore LHP Daniel Zamora (La Puente, Calif.) recorded his sixth victory of the season in game two, going 5.1 innings, allowing no runs on five hits with three strikeouts. Sophomore RHP Cameron Stone (West Haven, Conn.) tossed 1.2 innings of no-hit baseball to preserve Stony Brook's fifth shutout of the season.

- Junior LF Jack Parenty (Wantagh, N.Y.) combined to go 6-for-8 in the doubleheader with five RBI and three runs scored. He also connected on his second home run of the season, a two-run shot in the fourth inning of game one.

- The Seawolves belted out three triples in today's games and now have 7on the season, the second most in the nation.

- Senior C Cole Peragine (Belle Ewart, Ontario) has now started all 218 games in his Stony Brook career. His 218 games played ranks him third in the career record book at Stony Brook. He is also second in walks in a career with 116.

- Sophomore 1B Casey Baker(Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) had two hits in game one and a single in game two to extend his hitting streak to 14 games.

- Sophomore SS Jeremy Giles (Claremont, Calif.) knocked out three hits and had three RBI in game one.
