Final Stats
Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Brook softball team's (30-17, 14-2) memorable 2015 season, which included a regular-season championship, came to a close on Saturday when they were defeated twice by Binghamton by scores of 5-2 and 9-3 in the America East Championship.
Bryant's Reaction
"We were the best team all year, but Binghamton was the best team today," said head coach Megan Bryant. "Our effort was there today, but our execution was not."
Game One
Binghamton jumped out to a 5-0 lead through the first three innings. The Seawolves made it interesting with two runs in the sixth on an rbi single from junior Kim Ragazzo (Lawrence, N.J.) and an rbi ground out from senior Lauren Kamachi (Surrey, British Columbia), but Binghamton's Sarah Miller closed out the complete game with a scoreless seventh inning.
Game Two
Stony Brook drew first blood with a solo home run from junior Allie Pisciotta (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) in the bottom of the third inning. The catcher finished the game 3-for-3 with all three of Stony Brook's runs. Binghamton regained the lead in the next half inning, plating three runs on five hits. The Seawolves threatened to retake the lead in the fifth inning. Junior Diane Caruso, who finished with two hits and two rbi, lined a two-out rbi single to right with the bases loaded to make the score 3-2, but the inning ended with a Lexie Shue (Lakewood, Calif.) ground out. The game got away from the Seawolves in the top of the sixth when the Bearcats scored five runs, highlighted by a three-run homer from Sydney Harbaugh.
All-Tournament Team
Pisciotta, Caruso and senior Allison Cukrov (Irvine, Calif.) were named to the All-Tournament team. Pisciotta went 5-for-9 (.556) with eight runs scored and two home runs. Caruso added five rbi, while playing a great left field and Cukrov went 2-1 with two complete game wins.
