LOWELL, Ma. -- Stony Brook's baseball team (28-14, 15-4 AE) moved one step closer to earning the America East regular season crown by sweeping UMass Lowell (14-25, 10-9 AE) in Saturday afternoon's conference double header at LeLacheur Park, taking game one 5-3 and earning a 9-3 victory in the second game.

Freshmen Andruw Gazzola (Coram, N.Y.) and Bobby Honeyman (Massapequa, N.Y.) combined for four of Stony Brook's eight hits in game one and the pair scored four runs and drove in two. Sophomore CF Toby Handley (Whitby, Ontario) added three hits and an RBI for the Seawolves.

Sophomore 3B Casey Baker (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) was one of the hitting leaders in game two with three hits, while Gazzola (Coram, N.Y.), junior LF Jack Parenty (Wantagh, N.Y.) and senior C Cole Peragine (Belle Ewart, Ontario) each collected two hits.

Quoting Head Coach Matt Senk
"It's always difficult to sweep especially when you play a quality opponent like Lowell. To make this happen we needed to get back to playing better in all phases of the game which we successfully did."

Turning Point -- Game 1
After UMass Lowell took the lead 3-2 with three runs in the third inning, freshman RF Andruw Gazzola (Coram, N.Y.) opened the fourth inning with a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly by fellow freshman 3B Bobby Honeyman (Massapequa, N.Y.) to tie the score. The Seawolves then took the lead for good in the sixth inning when sophomore 3B Casey Baker (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) scored on a fielder's choice by Gazzola.

Turning Point -- Game 2
Stony Brook jumped out of the gate early with scoring a pair of runs in the top of the first inning. The first two batters - senior C Cole Peragine (Belle Ewart, Ontario) and sophomore CF Toby Handley (Whitby, Ontario) - reached base safely and came around to score on a single by junior LF Jack Parenty (Wantagh, N.Y.) and a sacrifice bunt by senior 2B Rob Chavarria (Garden Grove, Calif.).
