Boston, Mass. - The Stony Brook women’s soccer team finished sixth in the America East Preseason Coaches' Poll, the conference office announced Thursday. The voting was conducted by the conference's nine head coaches, who were not permitted to vote for their own teams.
The defending-champion New Hampshire Wildcats topped the poll with 63 points and seven of nine first place votes. They were followed by Hartford, the 2014 regular season champions. UMBC was the other team to receive a first-place vote, finishing third in the overall poll with 50 votes.
The Seawolves posted a 5-10-2 record overall and a 2-4-2 conference mark in 2014, missing out on the playoffs by three points. They return 17 letterwinners from last year’s team, including senior midfielder Tessa Devereaux (Fayetteville, N.Y.), who was named first team all-conference after tying for the conference lead with seven assists.
Stony Brook opens the season on Fri., Aug. 21 vs. St. John's at LaValle Stadium.
