Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Brook women’s soccer team (3-5) looks to continue its trend of home dominance on Sunday when it welcomes the Yale Bulldogs (3-3-1). Dating back to last season, the Seawolves are 8-3-1 at LaValle Stadium. All three of their wins this season have come at home.
Scouting Yale
The Bulldogs have been led by freshman Michelle Alozie. The forward leads the IVY League with 14 points and is tied at the top with five goals. She has been named the IVY League Rookie of the Week in two of the first three weeks of the season. Yale’s offense has been dynamic, scoring 13 goals in seven games. Freshman Midfielder Sofia Griff is second on the team with four goals. On the other end of the pitch, Yale has been less impressive, conceding 15 goals. Fourteen of their 15 goals against have come in their three losses. In their three wins, they have yet to give up a goal.
Corcho Earns Player of the Week
Sophomore Manuela Corcho (Norwalk, Conn.) is the reigning America East Rookie of the Week after scoring her first two career goals to help Stony Brook to a 2-1 record in three games last week. Her second half volley against Hofstra, the first goal of her career, temporarily leveled the match at 1-1 in Stony Brook’s 2-1 loss on Friday. On Sunday, she followed it up with her second goal in as many games, scoring the game-winner in Stony Brook’s 3-0 win over Fairleigh Dickinson.
Emerging Offense
Stony Brook’s offense, which was shutout in its first two games to open the season, has now scored at least one goal in all of its last six contests. The offense erupted for a season-high three goals in last Sunday’s win over FDU. It was the most goals the Seawolves haves scored in regulation since a 3-1 win over New Hampshire on Oct. 24, 2013.
