Final Stats
Stony Brook, N.Y. - Redshirt junior Raven Edwards (West, Orange, N.J.) continued her torrid scoring pace with two goals on Wednesday night as the Stony Brook women's soccer team concluded its non-conference slate with a 2-2 draw vs. Fairfield.
Ryan's Reaction
"I thought it was a good game," said head coach Sue Ryan. "It was a competitive game that allowed us to see what kind of depth we have because we were able to play a lot of players. I thought we scored two really good goals and it was good preparation for Sunday, when we open conference play at Vermont."
Highlights
- Edwards improved to 3-for-3 in penalty kicks this year, scoring from the spot in the 14th minute. She was awarded the opportunity after senior Emily Murrer (Aptos, Calif.) was taken down in the box.
- Brenna Brown equaled Edwards with a two-goal night. She tied the game up in the 24th minute, finishing a cross from the top of the 6 yard box.
- Edwards put the Seawolves in front once more with a rasping shot in the 77th minute. The shot hit the underside of the crossbar and bounced over the goal line.
- Brown evened the match at 2-2 in the 87th minute, heading home a rebound from close range.
Notes
- Edwards vaulted into second place in the America East in goals with five and points with 12. Her five-goal output matches her career-high, which she set as a freshman in 2012. Four of her five goals have come over the last three matches.
- Ryan used a season-high 24 players in the draw. Ten different players recorded a shot.
- Stony Brook outshot the Stags 22-18 for the match, including 7-2 in the two overtime sessions.
- Junior Emily Doherty (Oceanside, N.Y.) and freshman Cara Gallagher (Massapequa, N.Y.) combined to make nine saves in goal.
- Edwards recorded a game-high six shots. Her brace marked her second career two-goal game. She was the last Stony Brook player to record two goals in a game, doing so at Siena on Aug. 28, 2014.
