Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Brook women’s soccer team is back on campus this weekend with a two-game homestand. The Seawolves battle the Wagner Seahawks on Friday, Sep. 4 at 7 p.m., before hosting the Marist Red Foxes on Monday, Sep. 7, at 5 p.m.
Scouting Wagner
The Seahawks had a memorable run in 2014, finishing 5-1-2 in conference play before being bounced by Central Connecticut State in the Northeast Conference Semifinals; however, they are off to a slow start in 2015, losing four of their first five matches. The Wagner defense has proved vulnerable through the first five games. As a team, they have conceded 12 times, six of which have come in their last two games. Megan Fritz is the team’s leading scorer with two goals, both of which came in the Seahawks 4-2 win over St. Peter’s.
Scouting Marist
Marist is off to a 1-2 start after winning just two games in all of 2014. In their opener, the Red Foxes played Providence tight, eventually losing 2-1. They followed it up with a 2-1 overtime victory over Lehigh, before falling to Dartmouth 2-0. Brianna Robinson scored the overtime winner vs. the Mountain Hawks. Danielle Glazer leads the team with two assists.
Fairfield All-Tournament Team
Despite an 0-2 weekend, senior Tessa Devereaux (Fayetteville, N.Y.) and redshirt junior Raven Edwards (West Orange, N.J.) were named to the Fairfield Invitational All-Tournament Team last weekend. Devereaux played all 180 minutes over the weekend, logging a game-high five shots in Sunday’s 2-1 loss to Drexel. Edwards played a role in both of Stony Brook’s goals. She netted her first goal of the season and 10th of her career vs. Central Connecticut State on Friday then assisted on sophomore Christen Cahill’s (Pembroke, Mass.) goal vs. Drexel.
Cahill Making her Mark
Cahill is making waves in her second season in the Stony Brook program. After appearing in just one game as a freshman, Cahill has seen action in all four matches this season, scoring her first career goal vs. Drexel. She is tied-for-third on the team with seven shots.
