Seawolves introduce Sade Ayinde as assistant coach

Jan. 29, 2016

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Newly appointed Stony Brook head women’s soccer coach Brendan Faherty has finalized his first coaching staff with the announcement of former Maryland Terrapin standout Sade Ayinde as an assistant coach. Faherty announced the hiring of assistant coach Sarah Martinez earlier in the week.

"I believe the hiring of Sade proves how exciting of a time it is to be involved with the Stony Brook women's soccer program,” said Faherty. “Sade was one of the most accomplished youth players in Long Island history and has made a smooth transition into the start of her coaching career at the youth level."

"Similar to Sarah (Martinez), Sade comes from a background of winning as a youth and college player, and will be a great resource for our student-athletes. She has strong relationships through the soccer world, specifically in the Northeast, which will help us in recruiting."

In her four seasons at the University of Maryland, Ayinde led the Terrapins to three NCAA Tournament appearances, scoring 16 goals and adding 19 assists. She was named to the Soccer Buzz All-Mid Atlantic Freshman Team in 2008 and was voted the NSCAA National Player of the Week and ACC Player of the Week in 2010 after scoring both of Maryland’s goals in a 2-1 win over No. 2 North Carolina.

Following her collegiate years, Ayinde played for the Long Island Rough Riders and New York Magic of the W-League and spent a season in Sweden.

"I am extremely excited to have the opportunity to join the Stony Brook women's soccer coaching staff” Ayinde said. “I am especially grateful for the opportunity to learn from and work with Brendan, Sarah, and the team. I look forward to growing as a coach under the guidance of Brendan. His vision for this program is one that I believe in and am ready to work towards to make a reality."

Ayinde’s youth career in Long Island culminated in stints with the United States Youth National Team between the ages of U14 - U20. Ayinde, a member of the Region One ODP (Olympic Development Program) Team, won three New York State Cup titles with the East Meadow Shooting Stars and was an New York All-State and Nassau County Exceptional Senior selection at W.C. Mepham High School.

Ayinde’s coaching experience includes a head coaching role with the Girls U10 and U15 first teams at East Meadow Soccer Club. She also serves as a Region I ODP coach in Rhode Island and is the assistant coach of the ENYYSA ODP team in New York State.

She owns a USSF Class “C” coaching license and an NSCAA National Diploma.
