Beverette named CAA Football Defensive Player of the Week



STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Tyrice Beverette, a junior captain on the Stony Brook football team, was named the CAA Football Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
 
Beverette a defensive back from Lakewood, N.J., registered a team-high 11 tackles, 4.0 tackles for loss (22 yards), a sack and a forced fumble in Stony Brook's 14-3 win over Rhode Island. The junior defensive back led a Seawolves' defense that limited the Rams to just 134 total yards and a first-quarter field goal.
 
The honor is the first of the season for Beverette and the third defensive Player of the Week honor for Stony Brook. Senior captain Jaheem Woods earned the award for his efforts in the season opening win over North Dakota and in the victory at Towson last week.
 
Stony Brook hits the road again, this time down I-95 to Newark, Del., to face Delaware next Saturday. The Blue Hens and Seawolves will kickoff at 1 p.m. at Delaware Stadium.
