COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Stony Brook men's basketball team was unable to get it going against Maryland as it stumbled, 77-63, at the Xfinity Center Tuesday night. The Seawolves, plagued by scoring lulls throughout the game, fall to 0-3 on the year, while Maryland remains unbeaten through five games.
Boals' Reaction
"I thought our guys competed and played hard," said head coach
Jeff Boals. "There was a stretch where we cut it to seven, but we made a couple bad decisions and Maryland went on a run and we couldn't overcome that. I thought we did exactly what we wanted to do on the offensive end. We executed really well, we set great screens, we got wide-open looks and once this team starts clicking and we hit shots, it will be a completely different ballgame."
Highlights
- The two teams traded the lead early on and Stony Brook kept it within single digits until the clock got under 8:30 in the first half.
- Maryland finished the first half on a 4:57 scoring drought, making just one of its final six shots from the field in the period, but was still able to hold an 11-point lead at the break.
- Senior Lucas Woodhouse (Greenlawn, N.Y.) scored five of the first eight points for the Seawolves to get things going in the second half and get the difference back within single digits.
- After a scoreless first half, redshirt freshman Akwasi Yeboah (Chigwell, England) heated up in the second, scoring seven-straight points for Stony Brook, but the Terps had an answer for every bucket.
- The Seawolves went dry late in the second half and it took until Woodhouse banked one in off the glass with 2:34 left to play to end a nearly eight-minute scoring drought, cutting back into Maryland's largest lead of the night at 18 points.
Notes
- This was the third time this season Yeboah has scored in double figures.
- Junior Tyrell Sturdivant (Chester, Pa.) neared his second double-double of the year, but reached double figures in rebounding (10) for the second time.
- Woodhouse's 14 points in the game marks the 34th double-figure scoring game of his career.
- The Seawolves outrebounded Maryland 38-35, marking the first time this season they have taken the advantage in the category.
- Stony Brook shot 34.4-percent from the field against the Terps and has been unable to shoot better that 37-percent this season.
