Women's soccer signs four on National Signing Day

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook head women's soccer coach Brendan Faherty signed four student-athletes to National Letters of Intent on Wednesday's National Signing Day. All four members of the class hail from the Northeast and will join the Seawolves for the 2016 Fall season.

"We are excited to welcome the 2016 class to the Stony Brook community,” said Faherty. “All four student-athletes are highly motivated and have enjoyed individual and team success at the high school and club level."  

"We believe each student-athlete has the necessary traits to help our program reach our goals academically and athletically. We look forward to integrating them into our program later this summer."

D Marissa Kelberman - Bolton, Mass./Nashoba Regional High School

Kelberman played her club soccer for FC Blazers from 2012-14 and FC Stars from 2014-16, where she won the Massachusetts State Cup title in 2011 and was a semifinalist in 2014. Kelberman was a three-year letterwinner at Nashoba Regional High School and a two-time All-League and All-State Division I All-Star. She led Nashoba to a no.1 Regional Ranking as a junior, losing in the state semifinal. For her high school career, she recorded four goals and added nine assists from her center back position.

“Stony Brook’s pre-law advising program and its competitive academic programs are the reasons I chose Stony Brook,” said Kelberman. “I also like the the school’s location and the chemistry of the girls on the team.”

M/D Francesca Lee  - Webster, N.Y. - Webster Schroeder High School

Lee won the New York State Cup title in 2012 with Revolution Empire Soccer Academy and was a four-year letterwinner at Webster Schroeder High School, winning the Scholar-Athlete Award four times. She earned All-Monroe County honors as a junior and senior and was first team All-Greater Rochester and a Monroe County Player of the Year finalist as a senior.

“I chose Stony Brook’s because of its academic reputation and the variety of academic programs they offer,” said Lee. I attended the Stony Brook ID Camp in the summer and loved the competitive atmosphere and thought it was the right place for me.”

F/D Sophia Morell - Berlin, Conn./Berlin High School

Morell was a four-year letterwinner at Berlin High School, leading the Redcoats to a state semifinal appearance as a senior captain. She was twice voted first team All-State and was a four-time All-Central Connecticut Conference (CCC) selection. Morell landed on the All-Academic team all four years and was named to the All-New Britain Herald Team every season, finishing her high school career with 35 goals and 54 assists. She played her club soccer for FSA FC ECNL.

“The opportunity to play Division I soccer and study at one of the the leading Health Science universities globally fit my present and future goals and made Stony Brook the right choice for me,” said Morell.

M/D Jada Stewart - White Plains, N.Y./Goshen High School

Stewart, who played club soccer for Quickstrike F.C. and is a Region I ODP player, was a three-year letterwinner at Goshen High School, leading the Gladiators to the New York State Class A semifinals twice. She was named to the All-Section 9 Team, New York Sports Writer All-State 4th Team and MSG Hudson-Valley All-Star First Team as a senior, scoring seven goals and adding five assists before moving to center back.

“I chose Stony Brook because I fell in love with the campus,” said Stewart. “I was also impressed with the variety of academic programs offered.”
