Bryant's Reaction
"We executed in all three facets of the game, fought hard, and had great energy," said head coach Megan Bryant. Maddy threw a terrific game and everyone in the lineup contributed offensively.
Game 1
The Seawolves managed to outhit the Friars 7-6, but a two-out error in the fifth inning allowed the game's only runs to score. Senior Jane Sallen (Lake Worth, Fla.) (4-9) was strong in the circle, throwing all seven innings and allowing two unearned runs on six hits. Stony Brook's best opportunity to score came in the bottom of the third when sophomore Chelsea Evans (Merced, Calif.) singled up the middle, but senior Kellie Reynolds (Paso Robles, Calif.) was thrown out at the plate trying to score from second.
Game 2
Eight Stony Brook players recorded hits and five had multiple hits in the five-inning win over Holy Cross. Leading 4-2, the Seawolves scored six runs in the top of the fourth inning, highlighted by a three-run homer run from senior Patty Borges (Berkley, Mass.), just her second homer of her career. Freshman Irene Rivera (Sylmar, Calif.) and junior Lexie Shue (Lakewood, Calif.) also had run scoring hits in the inning. The Crusaders retired the first two hitters in the inning before Stony Brook staged its two-out, six-run rally. Sophomore Maddy Neales (Orange, Calif.) (2-3) picked up her second win of the season, throwing five innings and allowing two runs, one earned, on four hits, while striking out a career-high eight.
