Box Score
STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Stony Brook baseball scored three times in the bottom of the eighth inning to earn a 4-2 come-from-behind victory over visiting Sacred Heart on Tuesday afternoon at Joe Nathan Field.
The Seawolves (8-9) trailed 2-1 entering the eighth inning before sophomore 1B Andruw Gazzola (Coram, N.Y.) drilled a double into the gap in left center and Junior CF Toby Handley (Whitby, Ontario) reached on bunt base hit. Both runners came home on a double to the left-center gap by senior 2B/LF Jack Parenty (Wantagh, N.Y.) that gave Stony Brook the lead.
After tacking on one more insurance run, freshman LF/P Joe Baran (West Hazelton, Pa.) tossed his second scoreless inning on the mound to close the game out and earn his first collegiate win.
Turning Point
With Sacred Heart leading 2-1 in the top of the fifth, the Pioneers threated with runners on second and third with one out, but Stony Brook freshman RHP Tim Kranz (Babylon, N.Y.) struck out the final two batters of the inning to preserve the score.
Quoting Head Coach Matt Senk
"We’ve been talking about how this year we really haven’t been able to come back in a game so it was good to finally get that late inning comeback. That is part of us starting to play better. Certainly as a team that is big for us.”
