Baltimore, Md. - The Stony Brook softball team (10-15-1, 2-1 AE) took the third and decisive game of its conference-opening series at UMBC on Sunday, 7-0, behind the arm of senior pitcher Jane Sallen (Lake Worth, Fla.).
Bryant's Reaction
"We played exceptionally well in all facets of the game," said head coach Megan Bryant. "Our situational hitting was terrific and made a huge differene. I am really proud of our team for the way we fought back to take the series."
Turning Point
Freshman Irene Rivera's (Sylmar, Calif.) rbi doubles in the first and fifth innings put the Seawolves ahead 3-0 and Sallen made sure those runs held up, throwing a complete-game shutout, allowing four hits and striking out six.
Notes
- Sophomore Chelsea Evans (Merced, Calif.) went 2-for-3 with two runs and an rbi. She was Stony Brook's top hitter in the series, going 5-for-9 with four runs, two home runs and four rbi.
- Senior Allie Pisciotta (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) had two hits, a run and an rbi.
- Senior Patty Borges (Berkley, Mass.) had a hit and two rbi.
- Seniors Kim Ragazzo (Lawrence, N.J.) and Kellie Reynolds (Paso Robles, Calif.) each went 1-for-3 with a run scored and 3-for-8 with three runs in the series.
- Sallen's shutout was her second of the season and the 13th of her career.
