Bronx, N.Y. - The Stony Brook softball team (10-16-1, 2-1 AE) dropped a non-league contest at Manhattan on Wednesday, 6-3.
Turning Point
The teams traded runs early as Manhattan grabbed a 3-2 lead through two innings. Both pitchers would settle down as the score remained the same heading into the bottom of the sixth inning before the Jaspers plated three insurance runs to build a 6-2 lead.
Notes
- Freshman Irene Rivera (Sylmar, Calif.), the reigning America East Rookie of the Week, went 2-for-4 with an rbi double in the top of the first inning.
- Freshman Danielle Kemp (Millford, Conn.) drew a bases loaded walk in the top of the second inning to draw Stony Brook within one run, 3-2.
- Senior Diane Caruso (Middletown, N.Y.) drew a bases loaded walk in the top of the seventh to pull the Seawolves within three at 6-3, but the game ended when Rivera, representing the go-ahead run, popped up to first.
- Senior Kim Ragazzo (Lawrence, N.J.) led off the seventh with a single to center and came around to score.
- Sophomore Maddy Neales (Orange, Calif.) went 5.1 innings in the circle, allowing six runs, four earned, on six hits and four walks.
- Neales recorded eight strikeouts, her fourth consecutive start with at least eight punch outs.
- Senior Alex Petrolia (Henderson, Nev.) relieved Neales and threw 0.2 scoreless innings, yielding one hit.
