Stony Brook falls to Appalachian State

ELON, N.C. &ndash; The Stony Brook baseball team fell 4-0 to Appalachian State in the opening game of the Elon Tournament at Elon&rsquo;s Latham Park.

The Seawolves (2-6) collected three hits in the game, one each from junior CF Toby Handley (Whitby, Ontario), sophomore SS Bobby Honeyman (Massapequa, N.Y.) and sophomore 1B Andrew Gazzola (Coram, N.Y.). Gazzola doubled in the first inning, while Honeyman&rsquo;s single in the third inning extended his hitting streak to a career-long eight games.

Senior pitcher Tim Knesnik (Milford, Pa.) set down all six batters he faced in the final two innings of his relief appearance.&nbsp;

Turning Point
Appalachian State&rsquo;s sophomore outfielder Tyler Stroup homered over the left field fence with one out in the bottom of the second inning. It would turn out to be the only run the Mountaineers would need.

Notes
- Sophomore SS Bobby Honeyman (Massapequa, N.Y.) extended his career-long hitting streak to eight games (Each game of the season). He has also now reached base safely in 18 straight games, including the final 10 games of the 2015 season.
- Junior CF Toby Handley (Whitby, Ontario) singled in the eighth inning and has now reached base safely in 10 straight games (All eight this season and the final two of the 2015 season).&nbsp;

The Seawolves will face host Elon in the second day of the Elon Tournament at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday at Latham Park.
