BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Stony Brook baseball earned their seventh win in eight outings with a 8-1 victory over LIU Brooklyn on Wednesday afternoon at LIU Field.
The Seawolves (15-13, 5-2 AE) jumped out on the Blackbirds (9-19, 4-6 NEC) with a run in each of the first two innings and then plated four runs in the fourth to break the game open.
Stony Brook used five pitchers and combined they scattered five hits and allowed just one run. Sophomore LHP Kevin Kernan (Mahopic, N.Y.) picked up the win after he tossed 3.0 innings and allowed one hit.
Sophomore LF Andruw Gazzola (Coram, N.Y.) collected three hits on the afternoon, including a bases-loaded double that scored three runs that capped the Seawolves’ four-run fourth inning.
Turning Point
Hartford, who was shutout in game one of the series on Friday, struck early and posted five runs in the bottom of the first inning to take control of the game. Hawks’ senior Chris DelDebbio led the charge with a three-run home run.

- The Seawolves have now won 21 straight mid-week games dating back to April 22, 2014.
- Senior 2B Jack Parenty (Wantagh, N.Y.) singled in the third innings to extend his hit streak to nine games. He is batting .517 (15-29) during the streak.
- Sophomore LF Andruw Gazzola (Coram, N.Y.) singled in the first inning to extend his hit streak to nine straight games. He finished the game going 3-for-3 and is now hitting .371 (13-35) during the streak.
- Junior CF Toby Handley (Whitby, Ontario) singled to lead off the game and has now reached base safely in 12 straight games.
- Sophomore LHP Kevin Kernan (Mahopic, N.Y.) started on the mound for the second time in his career. Kernan picked up the win with 3.0 scoreless innings of work for his first win of the season and third of his career.
