Box Score April 20, 2016
Final Stats
Stony Brook, N.Y. - Senior Melissa Phelan launched her second home run of the year and senior Diane Caruso went 3-for-4 with two rbi, but it wasn't enough as the Stony Brook softball team (21-18-2, 9-2 AE) lost to LIU Brooklyn (18-24, 6-2 NEC), 6-4.
Turning Point
Stony Brook starting pitcher Maddy Neales (Orange, Calif.) had things on cruise control until she ran into her first trouble in the fifth inning. The Blackbirds would go on to plate two runs in the fifth and three in the sixth to take a 5-0 lead.
Phelan cut the deficit to 5-2 with a two-run shot in the bottom of the sixth, but the Blackbirds anwered with a run in the seventh. The Seawolves loaded the bases with two outs in the seventh for Caruso, who delivered with a two-run single and advanced into scoring position on the throw. Phelan followed with a sharp ground ball to the right side, but it was fielded by a sliding second baseman to end the game.
