Final Stats
New York City, N.Y. - The Stony Brook softball team (13-17-1, 3-2 AE) used 11 hits to plate 10 runs in a 10-6 victory over Columbia (7-20) on Wednesday. Game two of the doubleheader was cancelled due to a late start time and impending darkness.
Bryant's Reaction
"It wasn't a pretty win for us but it was a win," said Bryant. "Our offense carried us and we came up with some clutch defensive plays when we needed them. Allie and Patty stepped up with very productive at-bats."
Turning Point
Stony Brook exploded for nine runs from the third inning through the fifth. Senior Allie Pisciotta (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) gave the Seawolves a 3-2 lead with her third home run of the year, a three-run homer in the top of the third inning.
Junior Lexie Shue (Lakewood, Calif.) added an rbi single in the top of the fourth inning before junior Sami Duffy (Carmel, N.Y.) and Pisciotta followed with rbi hits to pad Stony Brook's lead to 7-2.
Columbia would respond with three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, but senior Patty Borges (Berkley, Mass.) laced a two-run double in the top of the fifth inning to put Stony Brook in front 9-5. Freshman Irene Rivera (Sylmar, Calif.) rounded out the scoring with a run-scoring double in the sixth.
