Stony Brook wins series opener vs. Hartford, 5-0

Box Score April 8, 2016

Final Stats

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Senior Jane Sallen (Lake Worth, Fla.) and sophomore Maddy Neales (Orange, Calif.) combined for a two-hit shutout and junior Lexie Shue (Lakewood, Calif.) added two hits and two rbi as the Stony Brook softball team (14-17-1, 4-2 AE) defeated Hartford 5-0 in the series opener.

Bryant's Reaction

"It's always good to take the first game of the series," said head coach Megan Bryant. "Jane and Maddy did some good things in the circle and the defense was solid behind them. Offensively, we came through with some big hits to get the win."

Turning Point

Stony Brook led 3-0 through four innings when Shue broke the game open with a nine-pitch at-bat that resulted in a two-run double to right field to put Stony Brook in front 5-0.
