Stony Brook splits DH at Hartford to take series

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. -- The Stony Brook baseball team split a doubleheader at Hartford on Saturday afternoon to win the America East Conference series at Fiondella Field.

The Seawolves (14-13, 5-2 AE) fell to the Hawks (20-8, 5-4 AE) 9-5 in game one and earned a 2-0 victory in game two.

Stony Brook received a solid pitching performance in game two behind the arms of freshman RHP Bret Clarke (Royersford, Pa.) and sophomore LHP Teddy Rodliff (Quincy, Mass.). Clarke started and went 4.1 innings of work and scattered five hits to record the win, while Rodliff retired all seven batters he faced and picked up the save.

Offensively, senior 2B Jack Parenty (Wantagh, N.Y.) posted five hits on the afternoon with a 4-for-5 performance in game one and went 1-for-3 in the second game. Senior 1B Johnny Caputo (Toronto, Ontario) and freshman C Sean Buckhout (West Nyack, N.Y.) each had a pair of hits in game two.&nbsp;

Game One Turning Point
Hartford, who was shutout in game one of the series on Friday, struck early and posted five runs in the bottom of the first inning to take control of the game. Hawks' senior Chris DelDebbio led the charge with a three-run home run.&nbsp;

Game Two Turning Point
The Seawolves broke up the pitcher's duel in the top of the fourth inning. Sophomore LF Andruw Gazzola (Coram, N.Y.) led the inning off with a single and came around to score on junior RF Casey Baker's (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) two-out single.&nbsp;

Notes
- Senior LHP Tyler Honahan (Parker, Colo.) recorded his 55th career appearance with the start in game one. His 55 appearances are tied for ninth most in school history.

- Junior CF Toby Handley (Whitby, Ontario) homered in the seventh inning of game one for his first career home run.

- Sophomore LHP Teddy Rodliff (Quincy, Mass.) picked up a save in game two and now has three saves this season and seven in his career. His seven saves are tied for seventh most in school history.

- Senior 2B Jack Parenty (Wantagh, N.Y.) recorded five hits on Saturday to bring his career total to 229. His five hits moved him past Maxx Tissenbaum and Gregg Foster into seventh place.

- Parenty collected five hits combined in the doubleheader on Saturday and has now hit safely in a season-long eight straight games. He is batting .519 (14-27) during the streak. &nbsp;&nbsp;
