Stony Brook splits DH at Maine

ORONO, Maine -- The Stony Brook baseball bats came alive in game two of Saturday's America East Conference doubleheader at Maine to come away with an 8-1 victory after dropping game one 2-1 at Mahaney Diamond. &nbsp;&nbsp;

The Seawolves (21-24, 10-8 AE) collected 12 hits in the night cap, including three by sophomore 3B Bobby Honeyman (Massapequa, N.Y.) and two each by sophomore LF Andruw Gazzola (Coram, N.Y.) and junior CF Toby Handley (Whitby, Ontario). Gazzola homered and doubled for his two hits and drove in two runs.

Freshman RHP Bret Clarke (Royersford, Pa.) went 6.1 innings to earn the victory for the Seawolves in game two.

The Black Bears (18-30, 7-12 AE) bested a complete game by Stony Brook's senior RHP Chad Lee (San Dimas, Calif.) in game one. Lee allowed two runs in 8.0 innings of work, but the Maine retired the final 18 Seawolves to come to the plate.&nbsp;

Game One Turning Point
After Stony Brook plated a run in the top of the first inning, Maine came back with single runs in the bottom of the second and third innings that proved all they would need for the win.&nbsp;

Game Two Turning Point
The Seawolves struck for four runs in the top of the second inning on five hits, including a two-run single by freshman DH Dylan Resk (Ardsley, N.Y.). Stony Brook opened the inning with four straight singles to set the tone.

Notes
- Freshman RHP Bret Clarke (Royersford, Pa.) recorded his sixth victory of the season by tossing 6.1 in the second game on Sunday.
- Junior RF Casey Baker (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) reached safely in both games on Saturday and has now reached base safely in 16 straight games.
- Sophomore 3B Bobby Honeyman (Massapequa, N.Y.) collected five hits in Saturday's doubleheader and has hit safely in five straight games now.
- Sophomore LF Andruw Gazzola (Coram, N.Y.) homered in game two on Saturday for his second of the season and the second of his career.&nbsp;
