VESTAL, N.Y. - The Stony Brook baseball team dropped both games of an America East Conference doubleheader to Binghamton on Saturday afternoon at The Bearcat Sports Complex.
The Bearcats (22-20, 14-4 AE) earned an 11-5 victory in game one and came back for a 2-0 win in the second game over the visiting Seawolves (20-22, 9-7 AE). Stony Brook remains in second place in the conference standings, while Binghamton extended its league lead.
Game One Turning Point
Binghamton set the tone early in the game by plating two runs in the bottom of the first inning on a two-run home run by Reed Gamache over the left field fence.
Game Two Turning Point
The Bearcats and broke up freshman RHP Bret Clarke's (Royersford, Pa.) no-hit bid with one out in the fourth inning with a double followed by a single to score the first run of the game that proved to be the deciding run.
Notes
- Junior C David Real (Chandler, Ariz.) collected two hits in game one to extend his streak of reaching base safely to 15 straight games.
- Real also homered in the seventh inning for his second of the season and second of his career.
- Junior RF Casey Baker (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) had a single in each game and has now reached base safely in 13 straight games.
- Freshman DH Dylan Resk (Ardsley, N.Y.) collected a pair of hits in game one and has now reached base safely in 11 straight games.
- Junior CF Toby Handley (Whitby, Ontario) stole second in game one and now has 33 steals in his career, moving him into a tie for ninth-place on Stony Brook's career list.
