The Stony Brook volleyball team was selected to finish third in the America East preseason coaches poll, as announced Wednesday by the conference office. Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own programs.
The Seawolves received one first-place vote, marking the second time in the last three years Stony Brook has earned a first-place nod.
Albany was picked to win the league and received five of seven first-place votes, while defending conference champion New Hampshire was chosen to finish second and received one first-place vote.
Binghamton, the fourth and final team into the 2015 America East Championship, was picked fourth, while UMBC, Hartford and UMass Lowell rounded out the seven-team league.
The Seawolves return six letterwinners in 2016, regain the services of two student-athletes who redshirted in 2015, and add five newcomers.
Stony Brook begins the 2016 season Friday, Aug. 26, when the Seawolves face UCF and Stetson to open the Holiday Inn Orlando East/UCF Invitational in Orlando, Florida.
