Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Stony Brook blanked at Yale, 4-0

New Haven, Conn. - The Stony Brook women's soccer team (0-3-1) was shutout for the third time in four games on Friday night as the Yale Bulldogs (3-0) pulled away late in the second half for a 4-0 win.

Faherty's Quote

"Tonight was a tale of two halves, but Yale was much better inside each 18," said head coach Brendan Faherty. "We created quite a few opportunities in the opening half but were unable to capitalize. The second half was a different story and Yale was clearly the better team. We need to regroup quickly and prepare for another difficult test on Friday at Fairfield."

Highlights

  • Senior Raven Edwards (West Orange, N.J.) had a golden opportunity to give the Seawolves a 1-0 lead in the first half when freshman Lea Kalmbach's (Tettnang, Germany) header found her at the back post. She beat the Yale keeper with her shot attempt but it rang off the crossbar.
  • Senior Lindsay Hutchinson (Millersville, Pa.) had another scoring opportunity when she picked the pocket of a Yale defender and let fly a left-footed attempt, but it was kept out with a diving save.
  • Yale got on the board in the 40th minute when Aerial Chavaran looped a head over Stony Brook goalkeeper Shannon Robinson(Stony Point, N.Y.).
  • Stony Brook came out firing in the second half. Sophomore Julie Johnstonbaugh (Neshanic Station, N.J.) was able to get around the back four on numerous occassions, but her crosses couldn't lead to goals.
  • After Robinson made a big save to keep the score momentarily at 1-0, Yale's Sarah McCauley gave the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead with a left-footed shot to the far post in the 76th minute.
  • Sofia Griff added insurance goals in the 83rd and 89th minutes.
Notes
  • Yale held a 21-7 margin in shots and a 10-4 discrepancy in shots on goal.
  • Stony Brook's pace on the flanks posed problems for the Bulldog defense as they held a 6-3 edge in corner kicks.
  • Robinson made six saves in goal.
  • Hutchinson and senior Priscilla Wiggins (Fresno, Calif.) each attempted two shots.
