Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Seawolves continue good road form with 1-0 at CCSU

New Britain, Conn. - The Stony Brook men's soccer team (3-2) recorded its second consecutive 1-0 victory away from home to complete a road swing that saw them win three of four after a 1-0 victory at CCSU (0-2-1) on Wednesday night.

Anatol Quote

"I give our guys a lot of credit. It's very difficult to play four games on the road with three games in six days" said head coach Ryan Anatol. We worked hard and dominated large parts of the game and we fully deserved this result."

Highlights

  • The home Blue Devils nearly struck first in the 10th minute. Daquan King squandered their best chance of the match when he redirected a flighted ball off the crossbar from 10 yards out.
  • Stony Brook's best chance of the half came off the head of sophomore Martieon Watson (Vessigny, Trinidad), but he steered it wide from 10 yards out.
  • The Seawolves started to take over the match in the seccond half. Junior forward Vince Erdei (Budapest, Hungary) had a pair of chances early in the half. The first came when senior Lars Togstad (Trondheim, Norway) headed the ball across goal. Erdei acrobatically attempted an overhead bike but it sailed high.
  • Moments later Erdei cruised up the gut of the CCSU defense and let fly a wrasping shot, but it was down the middle of the goal and resulted in a comfortable save.
  • Stony Brook continued to cause problems on set pieces. Junior Thibault Duval (Liege, Belgium) whipped in a corner in the 65th minute that was misplayed by the keeper but sailed untouched for a goal kick. Junior Barnabas Mako (Budapest, Hungary) was close to getting a touch on the ball.
  • The game-winning goal came in the 68th minute. Stony Brook's initial corner kick was cleared out to freshman Jarred Dass(Marabella, Trinidad) who volleyed his shot into the ground. The high-bouncing shot was flicked by a CCSU defender on its way in, wrong-footing the keeper as he watched helplessly. It was credited as an own goal.
  • CCSU had one last chance in the final minute of action but Sebastian Calderon's shot hit sidenetting.
Notes
  • Stony Brook controlled most of the action, holding a 13-7 advantage in shots and a 5-3 edge in shots on goal.
  • Erdei led with four shots and two shots on goal. Sophomore Serge Gamwanya (Trondheim, Norway) followed with three shots.
  • Stony Brook has recorded three road wins in four tries, its highest total of victories away from home since 2013.
  • Junior goalkeeper Tom McMahon (Nassau Bay, Texas) notched his second straight shutout and third of the season, which ties a career-high.
  • Stony Brook has played 188 consecutive minutes without yielding a goal.
  • All three of Stony Brook's wins have been shutouts.
