Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Stony Brook knocks off Hartford, 80-64

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – A strong second-half push helped seal the lopsided victory for the Stony Brook men's basketball team Thursday night, as it cruised to an 80-64 win over Hartford at Island Federal Credit Union Arena. This is the sixth straight victory for the Seawolves as they move to 10-8 on the year and 5-0 in conference play. Hartford is now 6-14 on the season and 1-4 in the America East.

Boals' Reaction
"I loved [our effort]," said head coach Jeff Boals. "I think with our energy and our athleticism we are able to create second and third-chance points and opportunities which really helps us out. Rebounding and second-chance points were really the difference in the game."

Highlights
  • The first half saw six ties and eight lead changes, but Stony Brook was able to pull away late by way of an 8-0 run to close out the period to go up 42-34.
  • Junior Tyrell Sturdivant (Chester, Pa.) got it going in the second half, scoring 10 of the team's first 13 points in the new half to help Stony Brook keep its lead in double figures.
  • The Seawolves led by as much as 22 in the second half, taking advantage of multiple scoring lulls by the Hawks.
  • Stony Brook saw 25 of its points come on second-chance opportunities, out-rebounding the Hawks 48-28 in the game.
Notes
  • Stony Brook is out to its third 5-0 start to America East play in program history.
  • The Seawolves saw four players score in double figures for the fourth time this season and have never lost in that situation.
  • Junior Junior Saintel (Mays Landing, N.J.) notched the first double-double of his career with 13 points and 10 boards. This is just the second time this season a Stony Brook player has had a double-double.
  • Senior Lucas Woodhouse (Greenlawn, N.Y.) paced the Seawolves in the first half, putting up 13 of his 17 points in the opening period.
