STONY BROOK, N.Y. – In front of the largest crowd in newly expanded Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium, the Stony Brook football team upended 12-ranked and CAA Football rival New Hampshire 38-24 on Homecoming Saturday night.
The crowd of 12,311 witnessed the Seawolves (5-2, 4-1 CAA Football) shutout the Wildcats (4-2, 2-1 CAA Football) in the second half, while posting 22 points of their own to overcome an eight-point halftime deficit.
Junior RB
Donald Liotine (Medford, N.Y.) scored a pair of rushing touchdowns, while senior RB
Stacey Bedell (Mastic Beach, N.Y.) tallied 157 yards on the ground, including a 63-yard touchdown run.
Stony Brook's defense, that forced three turnovers and held UNH to negative 10 rushing yards, was led by DB
Gavin Heslop (Yonkers, N.Y.) with a career-best nine tackles, including his first career sack and forced fumble.
Scoring
- UNH got on the scoreboard first on their opening drive with a 41-yard field goal by Max Pedinoff. The drive was nine plays for 29 yards.
- Stony Brook answered on the ensuing drive with a 34-yard field goal by PK Alex Lucansky with 9:08 left in the opening quarter. The drive was six plays for 33 yards and started with a 42-yard kickoff return by RB Donald Liotine.
- The Wildcats added another field goal, this time from 39 yards out off the leg of Morgan Ellman, with 3:01 left in the first quarter. The drive was 15 plays for 48 yards.
- RB Stacey Bedell gave the Seawolves the lead when he took off on the first play from scrimmage of the ensuing drive and galloped 63 yards for the touchdown. The PAT kick was no good.
- UNH retook the lead when RB Evan Grey scored from two-yards out early in the second quarter. QB Trevor Knight added a 2-point conversion with a rush to make it 14-9. The drive was 10 plays for 75 yards.
- The Wildcats added to the lead with 3-yard field goal by Max Pedinoff with 11:45 left in the second quarter. The drive was five plays for 38 yards.
- The Seawolves climbed closer with a 28-yard strike from QB Joe Carbone to WR Harrison Jackson in the left corner of the end zone with 3:38 left in the second quarter. PK Nick Courtney's PAT was good. The drive was five plays for 52 yards.
- UNH marched right back down the field to build the lead back up when QB Trevor Knight found WR Nick Lorden in the end zone from 16 yards away. The PAT by Morgan Ellman was good. The drive was five plays for 75 yards.
- Stony Brook cut the deficit to two when RB Donald Liotine scored from one-yard out. The two-point conversion attempt to tie the score was not successful.
- QB Joe Carbone hit WR Ray Bolden in the right corner of the end zone on a two-yard pass with 13:37 left in the fourth quarter to give the Seawolves the lead. The two-point conversion was not successful. The drive was three plays for two yards after Stony Brook recovered a UNH fumble.
- RB Donald Liotine extended Stony Brook's lead with an eight-yard touchdown run with 8:24 left in the fourth quarter. The PAT by PK Nick Courtney was good. The drive was six plays for 78 yards.
- The Seawolves put a cap on the scoring when PK Nick Courtney nailed a 29-yard field goal with 3:18 left in the fourth quarter. The Drive was four plays for negative one yard.

- Stony Brook gained 369 yards of total offense on 70 plays. UNH had 363 yards of total offense on 86 plays.

- LT Timon Parris extended his consecutive start streaks to 40 games (every game of his career).
- DB Darin Peart extended his consecutive starts streak to 28 straight games.
- DB Tyrice Beverette has now started 18 straight games, while OL Jackson Miller and LBs Shayne Lawless and Noah McGinty extended their start streak to 17.
- PK Nick Courtney made his first appearance in a game of his career. The junior kicked a pair of PATs. He also nailed his first career field goal, a 29-yarder in the fourth quarter.
- Captains for tonight's game were RB Stacey Bedell, DB Tyrice Beverette, TE Dennis Lestrange and WR Ray Bolden. Tonight's honorary captain was former Seawolves WR Mike Cosentino (2003-06).
