BOSTON – Five Stony Brook players earned 2017 America East Women's Soccer All-Conference awards, as announced by the league office on Oct. 25, 2017.
Freshman goalkeeper
Sofia Manner (Helsinki, Finland) was named America East Rookie of the Year – the second player to win the award in program history (Sarah Greenberg, 2000).
Manner played in 17 games for the Seawolves (16 starts) in her first collegiate season, allowing just 15 total goals while recording seven wins. Manner posted a .805 save percentage and a 0.93 goals-against average in 2017. She finished the regular season having allowed just five goals over eight America East contests, good for a 0.68 goals-against average – which ranks No. 2 in the conference. Manner recorded three shutouts, logging over 1,447 minutes in goal.
Senior
Franki Priore (Merrick, N.Y.) and junior
Kaitlin Loughren (Huntington, N.Y.) were named to the America East Second Team.
Priore played in a career-high 17 games for the program in 2017 (all starts), logging the third-most minutes of any player. She helped anchor the Seawolves' defense, which allowed seven total goals in conference play – tied for No. 1 in the America East.
Loughren started in all 18 contests for Stony Brook, joining Priore in guiding Stony Brook's defense – which ranked tied for first in the conference. The junior scored a goal in the Seawolves' loss vs. Dartmouth on Aug. 27, the first of her collegiate career.
Manner also joined
Alyssa Francese (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) and
Fanny Gotesson (Varnamo, Sweden) on the America East All-Rookie team, making the Seawolves the only program to have three freshman on the squad.
Francese enters postseason play with eight goals in 2017 – the most of any freshman in the conference and No. 4 overall. The freshman added an assist in a win over UMass Lowell on Sept. 28, totaling a team-high 17 points. Francese recorded three Rookie of the Week awards in 2017, scoring eight times in the last 10 games.
Gotesson played in 11 total games for Stony Brook, scoring one goal and recording four assists for six points. The forward played in 600 minutes during the regular season, tallying her first-career goal on Sept. 28 vs. UMass Lowell. Five of Gotesson's six points came in conference play this season.
