STONY BROOK, N.Y. -- The Stony Brook men's soccer team battled to a 0-0 draw with Albany at LaValle Stadium Saturday night. The Seawolves post season hopes remain alive with the tie, as they move to 6-5-5, 0-3-3 in the America East. Albany is not 11-4-1 on the year, 3-2-1 in league play.
Quoting Head Coach Ryan Anatol
"I'm very proud of the effort we put out tonight. I thought all the guys battled and it was a tough, intense game. There is a lot at stake at this time of the year and [Albany] is a good opponent. I was really pleased with how our guys competed. In the first half we were very good, we limited [Albany] defensively and I thought we created some good opportunities. We could have created a few more chances and could have been a little bit better in the final third, but at the end of the day we will take the point and move on to the next game."
Final: Stony Brook 0, Albany 0 (2OT)
- After being issued a pair of yellow cards in the first five minutes of play, Albany was the first to strike on goal as Adam Malekos sent in a header off a corner kick, but Stony Brook keeper
Tom McMahon (Nassau Bay, Texas) made the stop.
- Nearing the halftime break,
Eric McKenna (Great River, N.Y.) fired a shot from the right side that was deflected by Albany's keeper. The Seawolves outshot Albany 6-4 in the first half as each team took one attempt on goal.
- Despite the Great Danes taking the shooting edge in the second half, Stony Brook dominated possession late in regulation. The Seawolves took the only shot on net in the overtime periods as
Danny Espinoza (East Meadow, N.Y.) got a look on goal in the 102nd minute.
- McMahon made his return to goal and played the complete game, making four saves.
