Seawolves top Farmingdale State, moving to 4-0 for first time since 1997-98

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Stony Brook women's basketball continued its historic start to the 2017-18 season on Wednesday afternoon at Island Federal Credit Union Arena, topping Farmingdale State, 76-25, in non-conference play.
 
The Seawolves improve to 4-0 to begin a season for the first time since the 1997-98 season. This is the first time Stony Brook has won four-straight contests to begin the year in the Division I era.

With the win, head coach Caroline McCombs has 50 career wins as head coach of the Seawolves' program. McCombs guided the program to 17 wins in 2014-15, 17 victories in 2015-16, 12 wins in 2016-17, and four-straight victories to begin the 2017-18 campaign.

Highlights
  • Stony Brook shot 46.2 percent from the floor (30-for-65) in the contest.
  • The Seawolves forced a season-best 24 turnovers on the defensive end.  
  • Freshman Jonae Cox (Portsmouth, Va.) recorded a game-high 14 points, shooting 4-for-8 from 3-point range.
  • Aaliyah Worley (Philadelphia, Pa.) scored a season-high 13 points, shooting 5-of-6 from the field.
  • Cheyenne Clark (Deptford, N.J) chipped in with eight points and nine rebounds.
  • Giolibeth Perez (Camuy, Puerto Rico) added 10 points, six assists and five rebounds for the Seawolves in the win.
Notes
  • The Seawolves closed the first quarter on a 16-2 run over the final 5:05. Stony Brook's first field goal came with 5:05 remaining in the first, when Cheyenne Clark grabbed an offensive rebound and finished at the rim.
  • Stony Brook shot 41.9 percent in the first half, leading 34-12 at the break. Worley tied her season-high of nine points in the first 20 minutes of action.
  • The Seawolves then opened up the second half on a 11-0 run, extending their lead to 45-12 at the time.
