EVANSTON, Ill. – Stony Brook women's basketball fell at Big Ten foe Northwestern, 68-36, on Sunday afternoon at Beardsly Gym in non-conference action. With the loss, the Seawolves fall to 5-4 so far in 2017-18.

"I thought we came out strong in the first quarter, and from there Northwestern really dominated the game. We did not stop them in transition, and they were two steps ahead of us all night. We have to become more consistent. We have a lot of room for growth, and will continue to be resilient in our approach."
Highlights
- Jerell Matthews (Chicago, Ill.) scored a team-high 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting, grabbing four rebounds in the loss. Matthews has now led Stony Brook in scoring in two straight contests, and has tallied six double-digit point games this year.
- Shania Johnson (Frederick, MD.) added six points, seven assists and three rebounds. Johnson's seven-assist performance ties a season high, which she has now achieved four times in 2017-18.
- The Seawolves shot 13-of-54 (24.1 percent) from the floor.
- Northwestern outrebounded Stony Brook 38-36. The Seawolves nailed four 3-pointers to the Wildcats' three.
Notes
- Northwestern went on a 17-5 run over the final 7:23 of of the first half, leading 34-22 at the break. Matthews led all Stony Brook scorers in the first half, scoring nine points on 4-of-5 shooting.
- Stony Brook shot 75.0 percent (6-of-8) from the free throw line, marking the third time in 2017-18 the program posted a free throw percentage of 75.0 percent or greater.
- The Seawolves are now 0-8 all-time vs. current members of the Big Ten.
