Clark's double-double paces Seawolves in home win over Central Connecticut State

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Cheyenne Clark (Deptford, N.J) recorded her third double-double of the season on Sunday afternoon at Island Federal Credit Union Arena, leading Stony Brook women's basketball past Central Connecticut State, 60-55, in non-conference action.

With the win, the Seawolves improve to 7-4 so far in 2017-18.

Quoting Head Coach Caroline McCombs
"I thought we really struggled to get in to a good flow today. CCSU did an excellent job pushing the ball in transition and getting good looks at the basket. We were relentless on the glass, and it allowed us to make enough shots to come out on top. As always, there's nothing better than playing at home in front of our fans!"

Highlights
  • Clark paced Stony Brook with 14 points and 15 rebounds, including a career-best 11 offensive boards in the victory. The junior transfer's 11 offensive rebounds is the most of any America East player in a single game so far this year, and just three rebounds behind Ohio State's Stephanie Mavunga – who grabbed 14 offensive rebounds vs. Stanford (Nov. 10, 2017). Clark went 7-for-17 from the floor, registering her second-highest point total in the win.
  • Freshman India Pagan (New London, Conn.) tallied 11 points and a career-high nine rebounds on 5-of-6 shooting.
  • Jerell Matthews (Chicago, Ill.) and Aaliyah Worley (Philadelphia, PA) both chipped in with nine points in the win.
  • Stony Brook shot 40.9 percent (27-for-66) on the afternoon, sinking two 3-point shots in the win.
  • The Seawolves out-rebounded Central Connecticut State 49-28, tied for the program's second-highest rebound total this year.
Notes
  • CCSU opened the game strong, shooting 6-of-14 from the floor in the first quarter to take a 19-16 lead through 10 minutes of action.
  • The Seawolves would respond, though, out-scoring the Blue Devils 16-10 in the second to take the lead. Pagan had six points and four rebounds in the second quarter alone, shooting 3-for-3 from the floor.
  • Worley then tallied seven of her nine points in the third quarter, helping the Seawolves take a 47-41 lead heading into the fourth.
  • The Seawolves scored 38 points in the paint to CCSU's 16. Stony Brook has now outscored opponents in the paint 62-42 over its last two home wins.
