Syracuse, N.Y. – Stony Brook women's basketball is back in action on Sunday, Dec. 3, traveling to Syracuse for a 2 p.m. non-conference matchup at the Carrier Dome.
Last Time Out
- The Seawolves fell at Cornell, 48-40, on Friday night at Newman Arena for their first loss of the 2017-18 season.
- The Big Red led by as many as 19 points with just 7:56 left in regulation. Stony Brook cut the deficit down to eight points with 2:46 left in action, when Clark stole a pass and converted on the other end to make it 46-38.
- Junior Cheyenne Clark (Deptford, N.J.) led Stony Brook with 11 points and nine rebounds on 4-of-8 shooting. Clark grabbed four offensive rebounds in the loss.
- Jerell Matthews (Chicago, Ill.) and Aaliyah Worley (Philadelphia, PA) each chipped in with eight points for the Seawolves.
Scouting Syracuse
- Syracuse is 7-0 so far this year, most recently topping Northwestern, 81-74, on Nov. 30 to continue its undefeated streak to begin 2017-18.
- The program received six votes in the latest AP Top 25 Poll, and ranks No. 25 nationally in the latest USA Today Coaches' Poll.
- Miranda Drummond has paced Syracuse offensively, averaging 18.7 points per contest to go along with 7.6 rebounds. Tiana Mangakahia has chipped in with 15.1 points per game, and leads the nation with 11.9 assists per game.
- Stony Brook is 0-2 against Syracuse in the Division I era. The two programs last met on Nov. 18, 2016, as Syracuse topped the Seawolves 78-60.
Head Coach Caroline McCombs
- Caroline McCombs enters her fourth season as the head coach of the Stony Brook women's basketball team in 2017-18, as the Seawolves head coach has risen among the winningest coaches in Stony Brook's Division I era.
- With five victories to begin the 2017-18 season, McCombs has now won 51 games on Long Island – which ranks second among Stony Brook coaches in the Division I era. McCombs guided the Seawolves' program to 17 wins in 2014-15, 17 victories in 2015-16, and 12 wins in 2016-17.
Daunting Defense
Stony Brook has allowed just 47.0 points per contest, which ranks No. 3 in the nation entering Wednesday's action. The program has forced opponents to shoot just 21.2 percent from beyond the arc, which checks in at No. 5 nationally. Opponents have shot just 33.4 percent from the floor vs. the Seawolves, which ranks 15
th lowest in the country.

Preseason Poll
The Seawolves have been selected to finish No. 8 in the 2017-18 America East Women's Basketball Coaches' Poll, as announced by the conference on Oct. 19, 2017. Stony Brook received 16 total votes in the poll. New Hampshire was voted as the unanimous league favorite, garnering 64 total votes.
