Scouting the Black Bears
Maine is coming off back-to-back wins over Hartford and UMass Lowell and sits at 7-5, tied for fourth in the America East. The Black Bears are 8-1 at home this season
Sigi Koizar leads the Black Bears with 12.6 points per game. Maine has made the second-most three-pointers in the conference with 173, while the Seawolves have allowed the seventh-fewest in the nation through Friday with 81.
All-Time vs. Maine
Stony Brook is 18-18 against Maine in the DIvision I era following a 55-41 victory on Long Island Jan. 14. The Seawolves held the Black Bears to 10 points in the second half in the previous meeting.
The January victory snapped a five-game slide against Maine.
Seawolves Have Record Night in Lowell
Stony Brook scored a season-high in points and set the Division I program record for margin of victory in an 86-44 win at UMass Lowell Monday night. Sophomore Davion Wingate led all scorers with 21 points.
The 42-point margin of victory was the largest since Stony Brook was in Division III, when the Seawolves (in their first year playing as the new name) defeated John Jay, 98-35, Feb. 4, 1995.
KBW Breaks Assist Record; Eyes 1,000 Points
Senior Kori Bayne-Walker tallied six assists in the Jan. 16 win over UMass Lowell to break the all-time program record. Her fourth assist of the day - a second-quarter dish to Elizabeth Manner - passed Mykeema Ford with the 418th of her career. Bayne-Walker enters Sunday with 466 career assists.
Bayne-Walker is also the Seawolves' active scoring leader with 955 points.
Freeze on Threes
The Seawolves rank seventh in the nation through Wednesday with 81 three-pointers allowed on the year. Stony Brook's 26.6-percent three-point defense ranks 13th.
Stony Brook is the only America East team to hold an opponent without a three-pointer this season, doing it twice. The Seawolves held Vermont to 0-for-13 from three Jan. 28 and limited UMass Lowell to 0-for-10 Feb. 6.
Start Me Up
Sophomore Davion Wingate is averaging 13.8 points per game in 17 contests since joining the starting lineup for the Dec. 11 win at Central Connecticut.
Wingate has been in double figures in 11 of those games, which includes 20-point performances at the Florida Sunshine Classic against Florida A&M and Indiana, Jan. 19 at Hartford and Monday at UMass Lowell.
Wingate is the Seawolves' leading scorer at 11.9 points per game on the year.
