Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Stony Brook tops Hartford, 66-54

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – A strong second half performance lifted the Stony Brook men's basketball team to a 66-54 win over Hartford at Chase Arena Wednesday night. The victory moved the Seawolves to 16-10 on the year and 11-2 in conference play, while Hartford falls to 8-20, 3-10 in America East.

Boals' Reaction
"I give Hartford a lot of credit, they were without their top two scorers and they played harder than we did in the first 20 minutes but we were fortunate to have the three-point lead at the half," said head coach Jeff Boals. "We were able to go on a couple runs in the second half a get some separation and finish the game."

Highlights
  • It was a slow first half for both teams, but Stony Brook held the edge at the break.
  • Junior Roland Nyama (Frankfurt, Germany) gave the Seawolves a spark to start the second half as he was fouled in the lane and completed the three-point play less than 30 second in.
  • Ten straight points for Hartford gave the Hawks a lead they hadn't seen since early in the game. Junior Bryan Sekunda (State College, Pa.) stopped the scoring spree as he landed a three and the two teams went on to trade the lead until Stony Brook strung together seven straight points of its own to begin distancing itself.
  • A steady push by the Seawolves to close out the game quickly saw them keep the difference near double figures for the remaining minutes.
Notes
  • Nyama notched the first double-double of his career with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
  • Sekunda finished with four threes on the night, three coming in the second half.
  • After scoring just two points in the first half, senior Lucas Woodhouse (Greenlawn, N.Y.) led the way with 15 points and eight assists.
  • The Stony Brook bench outscored the Hartford bench 34-4 on the night.
  • Stony Brook limited itself to just nine turnovers in the game, keeping the different in single digits for the 11th time this season.
