Stony Brook drops opener at McNeese State



LAKE CHARLES, La. – Stony Brook's baseball team fell 18-2 to host McNeese State on the opening day of the 2017 season and the first game of the Lake Area Classic on Friday night at Joe Miller Ballpark.
 
Seawolves' (0-1) 1B Cody Clarke (Royersford, Pa.) collected a pair of hits, including a double, in his Stony Brook debut, while RF Casey Baker (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) scored a run, drove in a run and singled in the loss.
 
Turning Point
McNeese State plated four runs on one hit in the bottom of the first inning highlighted by a two-out, three-run triple to take the early lead. The Cowboys then posted two more runs in the second and four in the fourth to pull away.
 
Notes
- Senior RF Casey Baker (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) singled in the sixth inning to extend his hit streak to 11 games (final 10 games of the 2016 season and tonight). He has now also reached base safely in 26 straight games.
- Redshirt freshmen Greg Marino (Centereach, N.Y.) and Steven Acosta (West New York, N.J.) made their collegiate debuts on the mound on Friday.  
- Freshmen OF Chris Hamilton (Schenectady, N.Y.), INF Michael Wilson (Colonia, N.J.), INF Nick Grande (Smithtown, N.Y.), INF Garrett Heaton (East Patchogue, N.Y.) and P Brandon Bonanno (Mt. Sinai, N.Y.) made their collegiate debuts on Friday.
- Junior transfer P Kris Killackey (Middle Island, N.Y.) made his Stony Brook debut on Friday.
- Graduate student Cody Clarke (Royersford, Pa.) started at 1B in his Seawolves debut on Friday.
