Stony Brook drops series opener to Presbyterian

CLINTON, S.C. – Stony Brook's baseball team was not able to hold of Presbyterian in the series opener, falling 7-6 in walk-off fashion on Friday afternoon at PC Baseball Complex.

The Seawolves (0-4) held a 5-1 lead early in the game with three runs in the second inning and two more in the third, but the Blue Hose (3-3) chipped their back into the game and eventually scored the winning run with out in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Sophomore 2B Brandon Janofsky (Jackson, N.J.) led the offense with three hits and a pair of RBIs, while senior RF Casey Baker (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) and junior 3B Bobby Honeyman (Massapequa, N.Y.) each collected two hits.

Turning Point
With the Seawolves leading 5-2 in the bottom of the sixth, Presbyterian plated four runs to take a 6-5 lead. Stony Brook came right back to tie it with a run in the top of the seventh only to have the Blue Hose win in walk-off fashion with an unearned run in the bottom of the ninth.

Quoting Head Coach Matt Senk
"Anytime you're in a close game, doing the little things often decide whether you win or lose. That's what unfortunately happened today. Despite our best effort so far this season we didn't do the little things to earn a victory."

Notes
  • Freshman DH Michael Wilson (Colonia, N.J.) recorded in his first career RBI with a run-scoring single in the seventh inning.
  • Sophomore 2B Brandon Janofsky (Jackson, N.J.) collected his first multi-hit game of his career with three hits on Friday.
Up Next
The Seawolves and Blue Hose continue the series with game two on Saturday at 2 p.m. and conclude the series with a 12 p.m. start time on Sunday.
