ALBANY, N.Y. – After a back-and-forth first half, the Stony Brook men's basketball team took over in the second half to knock off Albany, 72-65, at SEFCU Arena Saturday night. The Seawolves move to 13-10 on the year, 8-2 in league play, while Albany now sits at 14-11, 5-5 in America East.
Boals' Reaction
"I'm really proud of our guys for playing a complete 40 minutes," said head coach
Jeff Boals. "I got a little worried when they started pressing toward the end, but we did a good job at the end of the game. We talked about playing with some toughness. We knew that they were going to make some runs and that we needed to bend and not break. We hit some big free throws in the end. We knew we had to out-rebound them to win the game and we did that."
Highlights
- Play remained close throughout the first half, as the game saw three ties and eight lead changes. Stony Brook went on a run early to go up six, but the Great Danes quickly got back in it and neither team led by more than a possession the rest of the half.
- The Seawolves opened the second half on a 9-2 run and used a steady push midway through the half to take their largest lead of the night, up 58-45.
- Albany used an 8-0 run to get back within six with 3:46 left to play, hanging around in the closing minutes.
- The Great Danes hit a big three with 46 seconds on the clock to get back within four, but were forced to foul and never able to get any closer.
