STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Stony Brook men's basketball team responded on short rest, making it three wins in six days after topping UMass Lowell, 83-72, at Island Federal Credit Union Arena Monday night. The Seawolves move to 14-10 on the season and 9-2 in America East play, while the River Hawks now sit at 10-16 on the year, 4-7 in conference.

"We talked about how this would be an energy game, a heart game," said head coach
Jeff Boals. "We knew UMass Lowell is a good team, they are never in a game and they are never out of a game. With the way they play, the game can always change quickly. I thought our bench was phenomenal tonight; we got some really good energy from those guys."
Highlights
- Stony Brook opened the game on a 16-3 run that ended on four straight threes to jump out to an early lead.
- The River Hawks responded with a 10-2 run to get back within two, but three straight threes, two coming from junior Bryan Sekunda (State College, Pa.) and another from freshman Mike Almonacy (Brentwood, N.Y.), made it a two-possession game again.
- A late three from UMass Lowell's Tyler Livingston made it a three-point game just before the half. Junior UC Iroegbu (Sacramento, Calif.) got up for his first dunk of the season eight seconds before the half, and hustled down to the other end to block the River Hawks' final attempt of the half.
- UMass Lowell scored back-to-back buckets to open the second half and make it a one-point game. Stony Brook responded with a pair of threes and a put-back by junior Jakub Petras (Rajec, Slovakia) to return the lead to eight.
- Back-to-back dunks from Petras capped off a 9-0 run by Stony Brook to give them their largest lead of the night at 14 points.
- The River Hawks were never able to get back within single digits in the game.
Notes
- Junior Roland Nyama (Frankfurt, Germany) finished with a season-best 19 points, while Petras notched a career-high nine points, going 4-for-4 from the field in the game.
- Stony Brook tallied a season-best seven dunks in the game.
- The Seawolves committed 10 turnovers in the game, while forcing UMass Lowell into 18 mishaps.
