PORTLAND, Maine – The Stony Brook women's basketball team gave top-seeded New Hampshire all it could handle in the 2017 America East quarterfinals, but a late UNH push lifted the Wildcats to a 58-49 victory over the No. 8-seed Seawolves Saturday at Cross Insurance Arena. In the defeat, the Seawolves close out the year at 12-18, while the Wildcats improve to 26-4.
Coach McCombs' Take
"Credit to New Hampshire … They're the No. 1 team in the league. Their go-to players really stepped up and were efficient. I feel that our team played hard possession-by-possession and gave us an opportunity to win the ballgame, but New Hampshire is the No. 1 team for a reason and they were able to close it out at the end."
Turning Point
The contest featured six ties and 11 lead changes before New Hampshire grabbed the lead for good in the final minute of the third quarter, taking a 40-38 lead into the final frame. The Wildcats would open up a seven-point advantage before senior
