Handley and Wilson each pound out three hits, but Stony Brook falls to UCF in series finale

ORLANDO, FLA. – Senior CF Toby Handley (Whitby, Ontario) and freshman DH Michael Wilson (Colonia, N.J.) each collected three hits, but the Stony Brook baseball team fell to UCF 3-2 on Sunday afternoon in the final game of the series at the UCF Baseball Complex.  
 
The Knights (11-1) improved to 10-0 at home after they plated the winning run with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning.
 
Handley went 3-3 with a walk, a stolen base and scored one of the Seawolves' (1-8) runs. Wilson was 3-4, including a lead off double, had a stolen a base and scored Stony Brook's other run. Junior 3B Bobby Honeyman (Massapequa, N.Y.) had a pair of singles to add to 10 hits as a team.
 
Senior 1B Casey Baker (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) and freshman RF Chris Hamilton (Schenectady, N.Y.) had Stony Brook's RBIs.
 
Freshman RHP Brian Herrmann (Northport, N.Y.) had another solid start on the mound. He allowed two runs on five hits and struck out four, while junior RHP Aaron Pinto (West Covina, Calif.) tossed two hitless innings in relief as well.
 
Turning Point
After preserving the tie game by cutting down Stony Brook's Michael Wilson at the plate to end the top half of the ninth inning, UCF loaded the bases with one out in the bottom half of the inning and singled home the game winner.
 
Notes
  • Senior 1B Casey Baker (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) singled in the third inning and has now reached base safely in seven straight games.
  • Senior CF Toby Handley (Whitby, Ontario) collected a pair of singles today and has now reached base safely in seven straight games.
  • Freshman 2B Michael Wilson (Colonia, N.J.) recorded three hits in the game and how now reached base safely in seven straight games.
  • Handley and Wilson each successfully stole a base on Sunday to make Stony Brook a perfect 9-9 this season in steals. Wilson is also a perfect 5-5 in steals.
