David Real (Chandler, Ariz.) had three hits, including a two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning that broke a 2-2 tie and led the Stony Brook baseball team to a 7-2 victory over visiting NYIT in the home opener on Tuesday afternoon at Joe Nathan Field.
Real's first home run of the season and third of his career sparked the Seawolves' (2-8) five-run rally with two outs in the eight inning. Senior CF

Michael Wilson (Colonia, N.J.) hit his first collegiate home run in the first inning to get Stony Brook on the board.
Junior RHP
Nick Montefusco (Medford, N.J.) tossed 5.0 innings in relief to pick up the victory. He allowed a run on three hits and struck out three. Junior LHP
Kevin Kernan (Mahopac, N.Y.) went 4.0 innings in his first start of the season and allowed a run on four hits with six strikeouts.
Turning Point

Nick Grande (Smithtown, N.Y.) on second, Real skied an 0-2 pitch over the left field wall to break a 2-2 tie.

"This win is as good as any because this win kind of gets us on track to understanding that we can get a big hit. We can make a big pitch and we can make a big play. That's what we did. We were resilient. We bounced back. We got some two strike hits. We had some two out hits to add on to the lead. We did things that good teams do."
