STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Despite an early spark and third-quarter push the Stony Brook men's lacrosse team was unable to get by No. 8 Albany, falling 19-11 at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium Saturday night. The Seawolves played well in transition but were left fighting for possession as Albany controlled the face-off all game. Stony Brook moves to 5-4 on the year, 1-2 in the America East, while the Great Danes are 8-1 this season and 3-0 in league play.
Nagle's Reaction
"This was certainly disappointing, but hats off to Albany. I didn't feel like we converted on a lot of our opportunities, but when a team wins 26 of the 33 face-off attempts it puts a lot of pressure on your defense," said head coach
Jim Nagle. "I thought
Ryland Rees did a great job tonight, but they had so many possessions. I liked the way our guys fought back in the third and didn't give up."

- Stony Brook came out of halftime ready to attack as freshman Tom Haun (Sachem, N.Y.) quickly put away a pass from senior Jeff Reh (Sound Beach, N.Y.).
- After another Albany goal, the Seawolves continued their third-quarter push when freshmen Cory VanGinhoven (Fort Mill, N.C.) and Connor Grippe (Setauket, N.Y.) teamed up before classmate Wayne White (Huntington, N.Y.) snuck a pass intended for Haun into the lower left side of the cage.
- Reh and VanGinhoven each added another goal in the run to get Stony Brook back within five nearing the end of the third quarter. The Great Danes were again able to take back the momentum as the quarter came to an end, putting away a goal with three seconds on the clock.
