STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Stony Brook softball team opens up conference play this weekend, traveling to Albany for a doubleheader on Sunday, April 2.

  • Stony Brook enters the week at 3-16 overall. Most recently, the Seawolves fell, 13-0, on the road vs. Fordham on Wednesday, March 29.
  • Two Stony Brook softball players won America East weekly awards, the league office announced on Tuesday March 28. Freshman outfielder Jourdin Hering (Federal Way, Wash.) was named Rookie of the Week, while sophomore Lindsey Hughes (San Dimas, Calif.) won Pitcher of the Week honors.
  • Hering has paced the Seawolves offensively so far this season, hitting .400 (24-for-60) with 37 total bases. Hering ranks No. 3 in the AEC in batting average.
  • Hughes pitched in all four of the Seawolves' games this past weekend in the Stony Brook Invitational, going a combined 15.1 scoreless innings. In that span, the sophomore gave up just 10 total hits, struck out 16 batters and earned two wins. She now owns a 2.40 ERA (No. 2 in AEC) in 23.1 innings pitched in the circle.
  • Melissa Rahrich (Brighton, Colo.) has thrown a team-high 52.1 innings on the mound, ranking No. 14 in the AEC with a 5.22 ERA. She's also got three home runs at the plate, which is tied for the team-high.
  • The Seawolves enter the week with a .252 team batting average (No. 4 in AEC) and a 5.96 ERA (No. 5 in AEC).

  • The Seawolves are 25-38 all-time vs. Albany (Division I History).
  • Stony Brook has won the last two meetings between the two programs.
Scouting Albany
  • The Great Danes are 11-7, having dropped a pair of games to Central Conn. State their last time out on March 25.
  • Fordham is hitting .281 as a team to go along with a 4.45 ERA – both rank No. 2 in the AEC.
  • Elizabeth Snow leads the team with a .392 average at the plate in 18 games, recording five home runs and 17 RBI's.
On Deck
Following the two games vs. Albany, the Seawolves travel to LIU Brooklyn and Seton Hall for two more mid-week games on Wednesday, April 5 and Thursday, April 6.
