Seawolves sweep UAlbany thanks to timely hitting and solid pitching

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Stony Brook baseball team swept visiting UAlbany in an America East Conference doubleheader with an 8-3 victory in game one and a 7-1 win in game two on Sunday afternoon at Joe Nathan Field thanks to some timely hitting and solid pitching performances.

Redshirt freshman RHP Greg Marino (Centereach, N.Y.) earned his first career victory for the Seawolves (10-14, 4-2 AE) in game two after he went 6.0 innings, allowed one run on five hits and struck out eight UAlbany (9-11, 2-4 AE) batters. Junior LHP Teddy Rodliff (Quincy, Ma.) earned the win in game one when he tossed 3.2 scoreless innings in relief.

At the plate, Stony Brook banged out 19 total hits in the two games, including home runs by sophomore RF Dylan Resk (Ardsley, N.Y.) and senior 1B Casey Baker (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.). Resk's two-run shot came in the sixth inning of game one and gave the Seawolves the first lead of the series. Baker's two-run blast in the third inning of game two and gave Stony Brook a 3-1 lead.

Baker finished the day with four combined hits, while junior 3B Bobby Honeyman (Massapequa, N.Y.) and junior LF Andruw Gazzola (Coram, N.Y.) had three each apiece in the doubleheader.

Game One Turning Point
Trailing the Great Danes 3-0 entering the fifth inning, Stony Brook was able to tie the score 3-3 in the fifth on three hits, including doubles from Baker and senior CF Toby Handley (Whitby, Ontario). The Seawolves then took the lead for good in the sixth inning on Resk's two-run home run.

Game Two Turning Point
With the score tied 1-1 in the third inning, Stony Brook scored five runs on four hits, including Baker's two-run homer and a two-run single by sophomore C Sean Buckhout (West Nyack, N.Y.).

Quoting Head Coach Matt Senk
"Today says a lot about this team's resilience. We were very disappointed in their performance yesterday and we came today, and even after a tough start in the first game, we settled down and started swinging the bats the way we are capable and got the terrific come-back win. Greg Marino set the tone in the second game and the guys did a really good job at the plate."
